The 2005 Dublin By Night league will take place in parks and forests around Dublin after Christmas. To take part, you will need to be over 16. Apart from the usual orienteering gear, you will also need a torch - the bigger the better!

Last Year

On the Long course, Úna May (3ROC) embarassed many of the male pretenders to take second overall. Martin Flynn (AJAX) took the honours after Úna was unable to make the final race in the Phoenix Park and attempt to force a play-off. Phillip Brennan (SET) was (I think) the first of the small torch brigade, the first 5 finishers using powerful halogen lamps. Second man was Gerry Brady (SET) in third place. Second woman was Ruth Lynam (CNOC) in 13th place.

Andrew O'Mullane moved up to the Long course after his convincing victory on the Short Course in 2004. This left the way open for Niall McAlinden (DUO) to score a close victory over Brian Hollinshead (3ROC). Áine Ní Shúilleabhán (3ROC) was the best woman with Fiona O'Brien (AJAX) a close second. Fiona could have overtaken Áine if she had turned up more often.

Apart from a savage evening for the St. Anne's Park event, numbers were as good or better than 2003. Can we improve participation again this year?

Details of DbN 2004 are here.

This Year ????

Brendan O'Brien cleaned up in 2002 but was unable to make an impact in 2003 or 2004 due to work commitments. Can he regain his place at the top this year? When Justin May runs, he is capable of a convincing victory. Will he make his presence felt in 2005? Can Úna May go one better and win the Long Course outright? Or will another woman come along to challenge her? The Long Course has been dominated by big headtorches for the past few years, can any of the small torch brigade break the stranglehold.

For the answer to these, and other vital questions, you will have to come along and give Night Orienteering a go!
